All Souls’ Day Candlelight Vigil

Saturday, November 2, 8 a.m.

On All Souls’ Day, the Church offers her liturgy for those who are being purified so they can enter the joy of heaven. At OLL, we will gather in the chapel before sunrise to light candles for our deceased loved ones and pray morning prayer from the Office of the Dead, a part of the Liturgy of the Hours designed for commemorating the faithful departed. All ages are welcome to participate.

Those who devoutly participate in this vigil will be granted a partial indulgence applicable to a soul in purgatory. Those who wish to receive a plenary indulgence for a soul in purgatory must also pray an Our Father and the Creed, pray for the pope’s intentions, go to Confession and receive Holy Communion within a few days of All Souls’ Day, and be completely detached from sin. We will pray the indulgenced prayers following morning prayer, and Confession will be available starting at 9 a.m.
