Fall 2026 Adult Class Series
The Story of the Scriptures. Nine Evenings. One Great Story.
This fall, join us at the Lakeshore Academy For The New Evangelization (LANE) as we walk through the Bible the way the Church has always read it—as a single, unfolding drama of God’s love for His people. From the covenants of ancient Israel to the apostles’ eyewitness testimony, from the early Church’s careful discernment of the canon to the Scriptures we hold in our hands today, we will discover why Catholics can approach the Bible with both confidence and joy.
The series is divided into three clear units, with a break between each. Come for the full series or for any single unit. Whether you are new to the Bible or have read it for years, these evenings are designed to give you a clearer, more confident grasp of Scripture as the living Word of God, and of the Church as its faithful guardian and interpreter.

Unit 1
The Bible in the Life of the Church
Dates: September 14, 21, 28
Time: 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Room 1
How the Bible came to us, why the Catholic canon includes more books than the Protestant Bible, and how Scripture, Tradition, and the Magisterium work together. We will also look at practical ways Catholics read and pray with Scripture.
Unit 2
The Old Testament: Israel’s Story
Dates: October 12, 19, 26
Time: 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Room 1
Three sweeping narrative arcs: Creation and covenant through the entry into the Promised Land; the rise and fall of the kingdom, exile, return, and the Maccabean crisis; and the Wisdom literature and Psalms as the heart-response of a people learning to live and pray with God.
Unit 3
The New Testament: The Story Fulfilled
Dates: November 9, 16, 23
Time: 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Room 1
Jesus in the Gospels; the birth and mission of the Church in Acts and the early letters of Paul; and the apostolic teaching that shows us how to live inside the Gospel story until the Lord returns.

This class is open to adults who are parishioners at Our Lady of the Lake, Catholics in the greater Holland area, Catholics throughout our Diocese, non-Catholics, or anyone interested in learning more about these topics. Join us in this journey of lifelong faith formation.

Nine evenings exploring what the Catholic Church is actually built on — Christ’s gift of Peter and the apostles, the interplay of Scripture and Tradition, apostolic succession, the councils, hierarchy, canon law, and the magisterium. These aren’t dry structures; they’re the living foundations that make the faith coherent, trustworthy, and life-giving in every age.

Lifelong Catholic Learning
The Lakeshore Academy for the New Evangelization (LANE) is a school of lifelong discipleship that proclaims the Gospel and empowers our Catholic community in West Michigan and beyond to live out Christ’s mission. The Most Reverend David J. Walkowiak, Bishop of Grand Rapids, endorsed LANE and blessed our classroom spaces at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Holland, Michigan. LANE and LANE Kids materials are available to Catholics throughout the Diocese of Grand Rapids and beyond.
LANE is a ministry of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Holland, Michigan. We began by offering in-person classes to adult learners in our parish, the Diocese of Grand Rapids, and beyond. In response to the pandemic, we started providing online learning opportunities in the spring of 2020. Now, in addition to in-person classes and speaking events, LANE offers an extensive catalog of self-paced online courses, webinars, and more.
