And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.
-Ephesians 1:13-14
We are all sealed with the Holy Spirit, as it is proclaimed in Ephesians; this is the sacrament of Confirmation.
Our Confirmation Program
At Our Lady of the Lake, Confirmation is a 2-year program beginning in 7th grade, continuing through 8th grade, and culminating at the Confirmation Mass at the Cathedral in Grand Rapids, where the Confirmation Candidates will be sealed with the Holy Spirit by the Bishop.
To ensure our Candidates are prepared for Confirmation, we use the Decision Point Confirmation program to teach, discuss, and prepare them to become full members of the Church. Confirmation is not a “graduation”, but a sacred sacrament that makes each candidate a full member of the congregation and allows them to take charge of their own faith.
During the course of the program we will cover some of the following topics:
- Jesus
- Prayer
- The Bible
- Our Mission as Catholics
- The Church
- The Eucharist
- Relationships
- And much more!
We participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation four times throughout each year as required by the Diocese. During these nights, we will spend most of the evening allowing each Candidate time to engage in the sacrament. Then we spend time in prayer and/or adoration, and, if time permits, we will end with some Apologetics…so make sure your candidate comes with his/her questions!
We also study the Theology of the Body. In today’s social environment, children are being exposed to many secular thoughts and ideas that don’t always align with our Catholic morals and teachings. St Pope John Paul II, in his Wednesday Audiences as Pope, published his Theology of the Body, an explanation and teachings on how “beautifully and wonderfully made” we each are in the image of Christ.
