Protecting the Sanctity of Human Life

January is widely recognized as a month to honor and protect the sanctity of human life. It is centered around the anniversary of Roe v. Wade (January 22) and marked by prayer, advocacy, and events like the March for Life, to promote the legal protection of unborn children and the dignity of human life.

This month, there are many ways Catholics can pray, fast, do penance, and take action to protect the sanctity of human life. See below for ways you can participate.

Join Catholics across the country in praying for an end to all abortion during the 9 Days for Life novena from January 16-24. Each day’s intention is accompanied by a short reflection and suggested actions to help build a culture of life.

Day of Prayer For The Legal Protection of Unborn Children

Thursday, January 22

Every year, the Catholic Church in the U.S. observes a day of prayer for the legal protection of unborn children on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton.

You are encouraged to participate in a prayer vigil on that day by picking up a Choose Life Candle Kit in the Gathering Space. Light the candle and position the lantern on your front porch or in another location where it will bear witness to the value of every human life.

March for Life in Washington D.C.

Friday, January 23

Every January, tens of thousands of people converge in Washington, D.C. and march on Capitol Hill to remember the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling which legalized abortion in all 50 states. The March for Life is not just a protest… it is a celebration of each and every life, from the moment of conception, envisioning a world where every life is celebrated, valued, and protected.

The Right to Life of Holland Area is offering options for transportation and lodging for anyone who wishes to attend the National March For Life in Washington D.C.

Walk for Life in Holland

Saturday, January 24

March for Life right here in Holland, Michigan. The march will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Centennial Park. A devotional and prayer service for unborn children will follow at Central Avenue CRC Sanctuary. This devotional will be led by Ann Wilson, President of RTLHA.

These events are free to attend. A free will offering will be taken at the memorial service.

January 1 is a holy day of obligation. Join us for Mass December 31 at 6:30 p.m. or January 1 at 9:00 a.m. The parish office and private prayer will be closed Thursday and Friday. No Adoration Thursday and Friday, no Mass on Friday, and no Confession on Saturday.Holiday closures and cancellations.
