Now Hiring: High School Youth Ministry Coordinator

Position Description: Recognizing our young people as the Church of today, we call them to conversion and intentional discipleship by offering a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ.  The High School Youth Ministry Coordinator, in collaboration with the pastor and staff, provides an overall vision for youth that emphasizes the baptismal call of all the faithful by providing opportunities for the young Church to encounter Christ, grow in virtue and become authentic witnesses of the Gospel.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Director of Discipleship

Classification: Hourly, approximately 20 hours per week

Evaluation: Semi-annually

Supervisory Responsibilities: Program implementation, oversight and direction of volunteers of an adult core team and youth leaders

Primary Purpose: The primary purpose of this position is to engage and integrate youth into parish life and the Universal Catholic Church

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Active and confirmed practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church
  • A visionary person who leads an authentic, Catholic lifestyle and cultivates a strong prayer life along with knowledge of Catholic Teaching (CCC), Church documents and youth culture.
  • Organized, outgoing, responsible person who possess strong administrative, communication, volunteer management and problem-solving skills with professionalism
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to understand and meet teens within their unique life stage and faith journey
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License

Desired:

  • Diocesan Certification in Catechesis, basic understanding of Catholic Beliefs, Liturgy and Church Sacramental Policies and/or Certificate in Youth Ministry, A. in Theology, Catechetics, Evangelization, Pastoral Ministry or related field
  • Experience in youth ministry within a parish setting and/or experience as a Catechist
  • Familiar with technology including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Social Media

Major Areas of Responsibility

High School Ministry

  • Advocate a comprehensive vision of youth ministry, using current Church documents and research as a foundation
  • Collaborate in the planning, development, execution and evaluation of the Life Teen program and implement the weekly Life Nights for high school students, in conjunction with the Life Teen Core Team
  • Implement the weekly Life Teen Summit program gatherings
  • Partner with parents in drawing teens into a deeper relationship with Jesus and an increased desire to participate in worship, sacraments and other opportunities for spiritual growth
  • Oversee and further develop youth leadership through youth volunteer recruitment, training, support and evaluation
  • Foster the integration of youth into all aspects of parish life
  • Create, coordinate and encourage participation in various spiritual growth opportunities for youth such as: retreats, spiritual and service opportunities – to include camps, pilgrimages, youth Masses, prayer experiences and regional events
  • Act as a liaison and collaborate with youth grades 9-12 who attend area public and Christian schools, Corpus Christi Catholic School, St. Francis de Sales and other area parishes and youth ministers
  • Promote the fostering and growth of holy vocations and provide support to those discerning the priesthood/religious life and their families
  • Attend monthly staff meetings
  • Other responsibilities as needed
