Eucharist

“I am the Bread of Life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.  Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.” (John 6: 35, 56)

At Our Lady of the Lake, we strive to make First Communion preparation and celebration a special time for the whole family as children prepare to receive Christ in the Eucharist, the source and summit of our lives as Christians. First Communion celebration takes place the first weekend in May. Children preparing for First Communion are typically second grade and older.

Our expectations of parents:
  • Support your child in active participation and completion of curriculum in one of the options for Discipleship classes.
  • Attend Mass every Sunday (or the Saturday vigil).
  • Assist your child in memorizing the prayers listed in the Parent Handbook (Sign of the Cross, Hail Mary, Our Father, and Glory Be).
  • Attend theSacramental Parent Meeting in November and complete the checklist distributed at this meeting.
What you can expect from us:
  • To be well prepared for theSacramental Parent Meeting and First Eucharist Retreat.
  • To provide the most up-to-date resources for families to supplement classroom preparation at home.
  • To provide clear handouts and schedules.
  • To offer consistent and supportive communications throughout the process.  All        parents are encouraged to speak with us or meet with us as needed.
  • To assist all families in reverently and profoundly experiencing these beautiful sacraments, while also preparing children in what to expect when they celebrate and receive the sacraments.
