Pre/Elementary Ministry

Through a collaborative effort that includes systematic evaluation and effective communication, we work to create a culture of lifelong faith formation which empowers parents, families and individuals to build a strong faith community that fosters discipleship.

General Information: We offer a variety of religious education classes for children 3 years old through 5th grade to help parents fulfill their responsibility of training them in the practice of faith and keeping God’s commandments. It is the expectation of the Church that we continue to grow in faith throughout our lives.

We offer a quality program at various times, see below, to best meet your family’s needs. To register: fill in both sides of the Registration Form and any additional forms as needed (Medical Action Plan is a form that must be signed by a physician for any child with severe allergies.) Print them and bring to church or mail with payment to: Our Lady of the Lake Parish, Faith Formation Office, 480 152nd Avenue, Holland, MI 49424.

Preschool/Elementary Program Descriptions:

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) ~ 3 years – 1st Grade

Montessori based faith formation for students age 3 years through 1st grade, with a hands-on approach which allows students the opportunity to experience religious values while celebrating their uniquely childlike enthusiastic enjoyment of God.  Students must be 3 years of age by September 1st and be completely toilet trained.  CGS students may register for classes on either Wednesday evening  or Thursday morning.

Elementary School Year Faith Formation ~ Grades 2-5

Traditional faith formation classes with sacrament preparation for Reconciliation and First Communion. These classes take place on Wednesday evenings.

Summer Session Faith Formation ~ Kindergarten – 5th Grade

The summer session of Faith Formation  covers a full school year of faith formation in two weeks of intensive learning sessions interspersed with prayer, music, and crafts.  Participation in the Family Faith Gatherings is encouraged as a way for these students and their families to stay connected to the parish year round.  Classes take place at Corpus Christi School the last two weeks in June.

Faith Family Gatherings (FFG) ~ All ages!

Faith Family Gatherings are once a month whole community events that draw families together for faith renewal and fellowship.   There is a one time fee of $50 per family, for all six sessions and which will include the meal, faith building activities and breakout sessions for all ages. Retreats to help prepare families for the seasons of Advent and Lent will be included in the six sessions.  All six FFG sessions take place the second weekend of the month and families may choose to attend either Saturday evening after 5pm Mass or Sunday afternoons after 11am Mass.

Home School Option ~ Grades K-5

Elementary students and parents have the option to work together at home to complete the faith formation curriculum instead of attending either the summer session or the traditional school year classes.  Home schooled students and their families are required to attend the six Family Faith Gatherings as well as all sacramental preparation meetings and retreats. The FFG fee is included in the home school registration fee.
