"Evangelization is the essential mission of the church." (PPVI). The Commission seeks to lead more people to become Christ's disciples, and to bring about in the parishioners such an enthusiasm for their faith, that in living their faith in Jesus, they freely share it with others.
New Members to the Parish:
Those who wish to become a member of Our Lady of the Lake are asked to call the parish office (399-1062) to set up a meeting for a tour of the Church and to register.
Preparation for the Baptism of a child
includes preparation of the parent who nurtures the child in faith. The
Basics in the Faith Series and a 2-part Baptismal Class are required.
In order to give sufficient time for preparation, please contact the
parish office as soon as you are aware that you are expecting a child.
Baptisms are held on the first and third Sundays (except during Lent).
There are many volunteer ministries within our parish. If, after prayerful consideration, you feel called to any of the ministries below, please contact Jim Gormley for more information.
Welcoming and Hospitality
There are always new members joining our parish. In order to welcome them into our faith community, we hold gatherings four times a year at the host home. The welcome committee members also attend the “welcome gatherings.” This is a great time to meet new people from the parish and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Coffee and Donuts
After the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00
a.m. Masses, parishioners gather to continue fellowship in the parish hall for
coffee and donuts. Members of the parish rotate on a schedule to help prepare
the refreshments and serve beverages.
Neighborhood Network
Our parish wanted to create a way for members to get to know other members who live in the surrounding area. Thus the Neighborhood Network was created. The role of the coordinator is to be another link to Our Lady of the Lake and to provide an opportunity to develop fellowship in their neighborhood. Coordinators assist in providing leadership and networking within parish neighborhoods by welcoming new parishioners to the neighborhood, distributing lists of names within the neighborhood and being a liaison with the parish staff. We encourage neighborhood network to try to gather as a group….one wonderful way by hosting a Small Christian Community.
Small Christian Communities
Open your home in hospitality for a small group of parishioners to gather as you facilitate a small group or participate in a Small Christian Community. The household communities meet for 6-8 weeks for prayer, sharing, mutual support, learning and outreach. If you are interested in hosting one, there are many topics to choose from. The benefits in hosting and facilitating include getting to set the date and time. Also, the facilitators will receive training and free materials. See the bulletin for new Small Christian Communities that are starting up soon.
There are also 2 unique Small Christian Communities; one for men and one for women.
The Men’s Bible Study meets year around on Wednesday mornings, beginning at 6:00 a.m. in the Library. Don’t worry, coffee is provided! The group of men is currently focusing on the Book of Exodus and has wonderful discussions to increase their understanding on their faith and the Bible. The group ends at 7:00 a.m., in time to attend the morning Communion Service.
The Women’s Bible Study is called Women of the Word (W.O.W.). W.O.W. meets September-June and has one session on Wednesday evenings and one held Thursday mornings with childcare. The mission of W.O.W. is “Becoming the women God wants us to be…together!” The fall session begins September 17 and will be studying “Graced and Gifted” by Kimberly Hahn. Contact Lynn Mossner at 748-9034 for details.
Mom and Tots Group
The Mom and Tots Group at Our Lady of the Lake Parish is a wonderful chance to meet other moms (dads are invited too) in the parish. This is a chance to get out of the house, for your young children to play with other children and as a parent (with a child of any age) to talk with other parents. There are various activities and speakers planned during the school year. We meet twice a month on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 9:30–11:00 a.m. There will also be quarterly mom’s night out which is another chance to meet other moms from the parish. The goals of the group are to share feelings, ideas and needs. It will help encourage moms to raise faith-filled kids and help us understand our role as mom, the heart of the home. Remember, being a mom is one of the most important jobs God blessed us.The group also has a yahoo group you may join: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OLLMomsTots/
Re-Membering Church
Be a friend who journeys with a Re-Membering Catholic on his or her return
to the Church. As a companion, attend the 12 weekly sessions of the
Re-Membering church process.
We have 2 wonderful places that are great to visit over and over again (volunteers are always needed to help maintain these places too)
Parish Library
Our parish library has many wonderful books, magazines and videos for
members of the parish to check out. The library is open during parish
office hours and after Masses. Our library provides the tools to help
you on your faith journey. There is also an opportunity to be a
librarian- to help catalog new books and return books to shelves.
Prayer Garden
With the hard work of many parishioners who have green thumbs, our
prayer garden is a wonderful place to visit. Some of the many things to
view while walking in the garden include: a crucifix, a stone rosary,
Stations of the Cross in the words and benches to just sit and enjoy the
beauty of nature that our creator made. Many hands make light work and
the summer time is busy.
In the summer, there are Friday outdoor Masses at 9:00 a.m. held in the Prayer Garden. Please check the bulletin or parish office to find the dates.
